Laureen Monty
Laureen Monty is a seasoned litigator and defense attorney representing public entities, including cities, counties and school districts, defending claims involving alleged discrimination, harassment, and retaliation, failure to prevent, failure to accommodate, and failure to engage in a good faith interactive process, under the FEHA, and whistleblower actions under Labor Code §1102.5.
Previously, Ms. Monty defended public entities, including police agencies, in cases alleging civil rights violations including Title VII, the Fourth Amendment, and the Eighth Amendment. Ms. Monty also defended public entities and government employees in cases alleging dangerous condition of public property; defended owners in habitability cases involving personal injury and property damage; defended homeowners in dog bite cases; and prosecuted felony and misdemeanor crimes for the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office and Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office.
Ms. Monty has first and second chaired over 20 civil and criminal trials in the Superior Court of California. Ms. Monty has also first chaired civil service commission hearings, as well as having extensive law and motion experience.
Ms. Monty expertly handles all stages of litigation as the day-to-day handling attorney for her cases, resolving her cases through either amicable settlement, dispositive motions, or trial. The best interests of her clients are always at the helm of all of her litigation actions and strategy. Ms. Monty’s interpersonal relations with her witnesses, clients and opposing counsel allow for amicable resolution of many of her cases.
Ms. Monty received her Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University Northridge and earned her Juris Doctor degree from Whittier Law School in 1996. Ms. Monty practices before all the California Courts and the Central District of the United States District Court. She is also admitted to the Texas Bar and has practiced before the District Courts of Texas.
